Grenada has launched a tender for consulting services to support the construction of a battery energy storage system (BESS) at Maurice Bishop International Airport. Expressions of interest are due by April 11. Grenada Electricity Services (Grenlec) is seeking consultants to support the construction of a BESS at Maurice Bishop International Airport. The tender details indicate that the BESS will be built next to a 15.1 MW solar farm at the airport, located near the capital of Granada. The consultants will provide technical and management support to Grenlec throughout the project, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and environmental safeguards. The World Bank and Caribbean Development will jointly finance the project, which is scheduled to be completed between August 2025 and February 2028. Expressions of interest must be submitted in writing by April 11. Grenlec unveiled a PV tender for the development of a 15 MW solar array at Maurice Bishop International Airport in September 2024 , but it was only released in November . In December, the Grenada Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) released a request for qualifications (RFQ) to pre-qualify bidders for an independent power producer (IPP) tender . The tender stipulated that the accompanying BESS should have a maximum capacity of 10.6 MW/21.2 MWh. Statistics from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) show that Grenada had 4 MW of cumulative installed solar capacity by the end of 2024. |
