The project, led by Majes Sol de Verano, a subsidiary of the U.S.-based Verano Energy, will be developed in the department of Arequipa. Through two resolutions, the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) has granted permanent use of private land and the right-of-way for a power pipeline to Majes Sol de Verano for its 45.34 MW “Central Solar Fotovoltaica Sol de Verano I” project, located in the district of Majes, province of Caylloma, department of Arequipa. This will allow the company, a subsidiary of the American company Verano Energy, to develop its photovoltaic project on a privately owned area spanning 86 hectares. Ministerial Resolution No. 104-2025-MINEM/DM establishes that Majes Sol de Verano shall adopt the necessary measures to ensure that the easement area does not suffer damage or harm due to the easement, and shall be subject to the relevant civil liability in the event of noncompliance. It also stipulates that any type of construction that restricts its use be prevented in or on the area affected by the easement. Meanwhile, Ministerial Resolution No. 104-2025-MINEM/DM authorizes the company to establish an electrical pipeline easement for the electricity transmission project. This involves a 138 kV transmission line between the plant and the Majes Electrical Substation, extending 14.47 kilometers across state land and with a 20-meter-wide easement strip. In February 2023, it was announced that Verano Energy had obtained environmental approval (DIA), archaeological approval (CIRA), and pre-operability connection for a 100 MW project in the town of Majes. It was reported that the project would be divided into two phases of 50 MW each. |
