The Avangrid Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Avangrid Inc. and a member of the Iberdrola Group, has made a significant impact in 2024 by supporting 89 charitable organizations across the United States. Through its contributions, the Foundation continues to drive initiatives that foster sustainability, social equity, and community well-being. Its efforts align with four core areas of focus: social action, education and research, biodiversity, and arts and culture. Under its Social Action pillar, the Avangrid Foundation invests in programs aimed at reducing poverty, improving quality of life, and supporting human rights. These efforts specifically target underserved, at-risk, and disadvantaged populations, ensuring they receive the resources necessary to thrive. The Education and Research pillar focuses on expanding access to education and advancing scientific research and innovation, helping to create more sustainable and resilient communities for the future. Meanwhile, the Biodiversity initiative promotes environmental conservation and sustainability by supporting projects that enhance ecosystems and protect natural habitats. Lastly, the Arts and Culture pillar works to enrich communities by increasing access to cultural and heritage programs, particularly for disadvantaged groups, fostering inclusivity and community engagement. Pedro Azagra, Avangrid CEO, stated, “Another exceptional year for the Avangrid Foundation. As a company, our purpose is to promote healthier and more sustainable communities every day. This is yet another example of how we are improving the lives of the people we work with and serve.” Pablo Colón, executive director of the Avangrid Foundation and director of corporate citizenship at Avangrid, said in a statement, “We work closely with our partner organizations each year to identify projects for funding that will have a positive impact in the communities we serve. I’m incredibly proud of the work our nonprofit partners do every day to address critical needs nationwide and we are thrilled to be a part of the meaningful work of promoting & creating thriving communities.” In 2024, the Avangrid Foundation partnered with several national organizations, including the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Feeding America, Kids in Need Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and the Trust for Public Land. These collaborations have provided essential resources and support to individuals and communities in need. Additionally, the Foundation extended its efforts at the local level by working with nonprofits such as the Urban League of Rochester (NY) and Preble Street of Portland (ME), ensuring that support reaches communities within Avangrid’s service and operational areas. Beyond its direct financial contributions, the Avangrid Foundation also empowers employees to make a difference through its Energized for Good program. This initiative supports employees’ volunteer work by donating to qualifying organizations based on the number of hours volunteered, up to 100 hours per employee. Additionally, the program matches employee donations, contributing 50 cents for every dollar donated, with a maximum match of $1,500 per employee. Erica Holland, manager for training, awareness, & metrics for corporate security & resilience at Avangrid, mentioned, “Being active in my community has always been something I am very passionate about. If I can give back in any capacity whether through donation or volunteering, I do it. The Avangrid Foundation and Energized for Good program only help to amplify my volunteer and giving efforts, and I could not be more grateful for that. Not only do I see the positive impacts in my local community, but I also feel the ripple effect it has on communities throughout our geographically dispersed organization.” By amplifying the impact of employee engagement, the Avangrid Foundation strengthens its commitment to building stronger, more resilient communities.
