Work Detail According to Solfácil, the country reached 3.3 million solar installations, an increase of 1.2 MWp, representing a 24% drop compared to the same period last year. Rising equipment prices are considered one of the main factors behind the slowdown. Brazil saw a 3% increase in the number of solar installations in the first two months of 2025, totaling 109,000 new projects and reaching 3.3 million photovoltaic systems in operation in the country. However, installed capacity expansion slowed, increasing by only 1.2 MWp, 24% less than the same period last year. The data is from a monthly survey by Solfácil, a solar solutions ecosystem in Latin America, based on information from the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). Rising solar equipment prices are considered one of the main factors behind the slowdown in installed capacity growth. With higher costs, many integrators have found it difficult to make larger projects viable. The installation profile has also changed in recent years. Small systems, with a capacity between 3 and 6 kWp, increased from 35% in 2019 to 48% of new installations in 2025, consolidating their position as the main power range on the market. The residential segment continues to lead the adoption of this technology, accounting for 84% of projects. Currently, more than 5% of Brazilian energy consumers already use solar energy. The Midwest region has the highest adoption rate, with 8.5% penetration, while the Northeast has the lowest rate, at 4.4%. Solfácils CEO and founder, Fabio Carrara, emphasizes that, despite cost pressures, solar energy remains an attractive investment. The payback period for the end consumer can be less than three years. No other market in the world offers such a rapid return, he says. In the last 12 months, the states of São Paulo, Mato Grosso, and Minas Gerais were the states that expanded solar energy adoption the most in the country. Other notable states were Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Bahia, Pará, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Pernambuco. Among the capitals, Campo Grande (MS), Cuiabá (MT), and Belém (PA) are important centers of solar installations. The research is part of the Solfácil Infographic, a monthly study that tracks industry trends.
