The Mendoza government and Aeropuertos Argentina announced an ambitious renovation plan for the El Plumerillo and San Rafael airports, with an investment of $25 million. The goal is to strengthen the provinces connectivity and boost tourism and the local economy. Additionally, the addition of two weekly flights to Brazil was confirmed. The construction work at Mendoza International Airport, El Plumerillo, will require a $10 million investment and will expand its operating capacity by 40%. The improvements include the modernization of the departure lounges, the addition of new boarding gates, the construction of a VIP lounge with mountain views, and the expansion of the immigration areas. New office space will also be built, and new commercial and food services will be added. Meanwhile, Santiago Germano Airport in San Rafael will receive a $15 million investment to expand its terminal by more than 3,300 square meters, including covered and semi-covered areas. The project includes the renovation of the boarding and arrivals areas with a modern baggage handling system, the installation of six new check-in kiosks, and the addition of retail and dining areas. In addition, childrens play areas and a pet-friendly area will be created. The renovation of the airport infrastructure is complemented by the addition of a new international route. JetSmart will operate two weekly flights between Mendoza and Rio de Janeiro starting May 9, consolidating the provinces global presence as a key destination in the region.
