Work Detail Selfridges and British sports carmaker Morgan have announced plans to launch a special edition electric three-wheeler this November.

Priced at £52,500, the 1909 Edition cars - named after the year both firms were founded - will be the first zero-emissions all-electric vehicle to be sold by the iconic automaker.

With a charge time of four hours and an expected range of 120 to 150 miles, the two-seater car will have a top speed of around 90mph.

The limited edition car is a bespoke version of Morgan's all-electric EV3 unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

Just 19 of the cars will be built, with all of them set to be sold in Selfridges' Oxford Street department store and delivered to each customer in the second half of 2017.

"Selfridges is a big machine and we are a relative minnow," Jon Wells, head of design at Morgan told The Guardian. "But we got together after taking some senior staff on one of our factory visits and discovered we had a lot in common."

Sebastian Manes, buying and merchandising director for Selfridges, said the new car responds to every criteria of sustainable, responsible manufacturing that the retailer adheres to.

"The development of this limited edition of Morgan's forthcoming all-electric car has been a wonderful experience from start to finish, and we can't wait to see what response the car aficionados among our customers will give this unique and exciting collaboration," he said. "We have never done anything with cars before and hopefully this is the start of a long-term collaboration."
