The $450m project will use 24 cold climate Nordex 163 7.0MW turbines and will begin operations in 2026 RES has completed the development phase and has begun construction of the 168MW Goose Harbour Lake Wind Farm in Nova Scotia, Canada. Goose Harbour Lake (picture of site behind Mill Pano), which is owned by Port Hawkesbury Paper Wind, will be the largest wind farm in Nova Scotia and Maritime Canada. The $450m project is expected to begin commercial operations in 2026. It will support the energy needs of Nova Scotia including Port Hawkesbury Paper and contribute to the province’s clean power transition. RES, which co developed the project, will now be responsible for the overall construction and installation of 24 cold climate Nordex 163 7.0MW turbines, each featuring anti-icing system blade technology. This technology will be the largest nameplate wind turbines currently being installed in North America. “As the developer and construction partner of choice for Port Hawkesbury Paper, our team is proud to be involved in this transformative wind energy project,” said RES Senior Vice President Peter Clibbon. “The Goose Harbour Lake project highlights RES unique capability to provide clean energy solutions to industrial power users, reducing their power rates and carbon exposure.” The project is anticipated to generate 150 full-time construction jobs and up to five permanent roles once it becomes operational. Through Wskijinu’k Mtmo’taqnuow Agency, 13 Mikmaw First Nations will also hold a 10% equity stake in the project, further enhancing Indigenous participation in Nova Scotia’s renewable energy sector. “Port Hawkesbury Paper looks forward to continuing our proud history of sustainable operations in Eastern Nova Scotia,” said Bevan Lock, PHP’s Co-Mill Manager. “This project will generate green energy for the benefit of all Nova Scotians and contribute to reducing both Nova Scotia’s and Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions.” |
