PNN 91200
Work Detail 2.5GW Beacon Wind withdrawn from grid connection queue BP has withdrawn its application for transmission connection for the 2500MW Beacon Wind project off the coast of New York. This decision was made to allow for more time in the evaluation of the projects design and configuration, the company said in a statement. Since the project submitted its application and queue position, New York’s approach to offshore wind project interconnection has evolved in the direction of coordinated offshore transmission. The oil supermajor added that it supports the ongoing Public Policy Transmission Need project in New York City, designed to upgrade the citys transmission infrastructure to accommodate more capacity from offshore wind in the coming years. The withdrawal comes after BP had requested a year-long delay in the application process from the New York Public Service Commission, making BP the latest developer to re-examine plans due to uncertainty in the US market after President Donald Trump put a halt to federal offshore permitting. BP had said a delay would also allow to it reassess its point of interconnection in the city.
