Erth Zayed Philanthropies has announced a major philanthropic commitment of US$40 million to support environmental conservation and sustainable development initiatives in Brazil. This transformative investment underlines the organization’s ongoing dedication to creating a positive, lasting impact in communities globally.
The announcement follows an official visit to Brazil by H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, who represented President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The visit included discussions with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in November 2024.
Strengthening UAE-Brazil Ties
The commitment comes as the UAE and Brazil celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, a partnership spanning political, economic, and cultural dimensions.
As part of the Erth Zayed Philanthropies ecosystem, this initiative includes contributions from renowned UAE organizations such as the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, and Clean Rivers.
Collaborative Environmental and Community Programs
In collaboration with local partners in Brazil, these entities will roll out a series of impactful programs focused on environmental conservation and community empowerment. Key projects include:
Supporting Indigenous communities in the Amazon to create sustainable livelihoods
Tackling plastic pollution in the Amazon and restoring ecosystems
Expanding an agricultural initiative in Bahia State, planting 10,000 date palm saplings and training farmers in sustainable practices
Providing technical expertise to protect Brazil’s biodiversity and support the Tropical Forests Forever Facility (TFFF), a US$250 billion initiative launched at COP28 in Dubai to conserve the world’s tropical rainforests
Strategic and Sustainable Solutions
H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Erth Zayed Philanthropies, emphasized the importance of partnerships in addressing global challenges.
“Strong partnerships are key to providing strategic, sustainable solutions. It is through collaboration that we transform ambition into action, ensuring sustainable development becomes more than a goal—it’s a promise we fulfill with every step forward,” Sheikh Theyab stated.
Strengthening UAE-Brazil Relations
Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, highlighted the long-standing strategic ties between the two countries. She noted the importance of reinforcing cooperation, particularly with Brazil’s leadership in sustainability initiatives such as COP30 and the energy transition.
“The UAE and Brazil share a commitment to safeguarding the planet and enhancing communities’ ability to tackle environmental and social challenges,” Al Hashimy said, further emphasizing the two nations’ collaboration in renewable energy.
A Shared Vision for the Future
Both countries continue to play crucial roles in promoting environmental conservation, shaping a sustainable future for generations to come. Erth Zayed Philanthropies’ US$40 million commitment reflects this shared responsibility, reinforcing the UAE’s dedication to global sustainability. |
