| Work Detail | The Aug. 22 article Frac sand regulation option heads to Winona County Board was an interesting read. However those who say mining sand for construction is OK but industrial sand should be banned or heavily regulated should be chided for the hypocrisy of their position. Sand mining is regulated at the state level, and multiple state agencies have investigated the potential impacts of industrial sand mining on the environment. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency found frac-sand mining does not negatively impact air quality and strict regulations on wetlands protects the water. The environmental impacts of mining sand for construction are the exact same impacts as industrial sand mining. It''s time to stop pretending they are different. |
