Work Detail The Sensex and Nifty were trading flat due to heavy selling in IT and TECk stocks as TCS has given a cautious outlook for the coming quarters, stating that clients are holding back on discretionary spending.

At 11.45 a.m., the 30-share BSE index Sensex was up 47.15 points or 0.16 per cent at 28,973.51 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty was up 13.95 points or 0.16 per cent at 8,931.90.

Among BSE sectoral indices, realty index gained the most by 1.43 per cent, metal 1.37 per cent, infrastructure 0.95 per cent and capital goods 0.82 per cent. On the other hand, IT index fell 2.95 per cent, and TECk 2.15 per cent.

Top five Sensex gainers were Tata Steel (+4.18%), Bajaj Auto (+3.62%), Hero MotoCorp (+3.11%) ONGC (+2.31%) and Maruti (+1.52%), while the major losers were (-5.79%), Infosys (-2.18%), Wipro (-2.00%), GAIL (-1.94%) and Tata Motors (-1.23%).

Early trade

The 30-share barometer was down 71.80 points or 0.24 per cent at 28,854.56 in early trade. The index had lost 51.66 points in the previous session.

Similarly, the NSE Nifty fell 21.05 points or 0.23 per cent to 8,896.90.

Global markets

In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei fell 0.24 per cent, while Shanghai Composite Index was quoting 0.15 per cent lower in early trade. However, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was up 0.35 per cent.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended 0.06 per cent lower in yesterday’s trade.
