Procurement News Notice

PNN 8436
Work Detail It was back to school for some students in Franklin County Wednesday.

Five schools in Franklin County had their first day of school Wednesday all because of a summer roofing construction project.

Frontier Regional School and four elementary schools in Deerfield, Sunderland, Whately, and Conway all started their school year Wednesday. Frontier Regional and Union #38 School Districts set up a roofing renovation project at Deerfield Elementary School which didn’t get completed until Tuesday. To keep things consistent, the district opted to have all the schools open on the same day.

Dr. Lynn Carey, Superintendent of Schools at Frontier Regional & Union 38 School District, told 22News, “We operate as one district. So when we have opening day, its opening day for all of our schools. The construction company requested we start after Labor Day to ensure a safe return for children.”

Dr. Carey told 22News the late start could make for an additional 5 to 6 days at the end of school year.

The Roof Renovations began on June 20th. Dr. Carey said the construction project cost close to 2 and half million dollars.
