Work Detail | Lockheed Martin has successfully completed the delivery of a new joint air-to-surface standoff missile (JASSM) to the US Air Force (USAF). The 2,000th missile is a baseline JASSM that was completed under the 12th production lot, which began production in January this year and includes 150 baseline JASSM cruise missiles and 60 JASSM-extended range (ER) missiles. Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control long-range strike systems programme director Jason Denney said: “US and allied warfighters rely on JASSM and JASSM-ER missiles as vital capabilities in their short- and long-term strategic defence plans. “JASSM and JASSM-ER are the only long-range, all-weather, stealthy cruise missiles capable of defeating high-value, well-defended current and future threats.” Armed with a penetrating blast-fragmentation warhead, the JASSM and JASSM-ER can be used in all weather conditions. Though JASSM and JASSM-ER share the same powerful capabilities and stealth attributes, JASSM-ER has more than two-and-a-half times the range of the standard JASSM. Both missiles use an enhanced digital anti-jam GPS receiver and infrared seekers to dial into specific points on targets, Lockheed said in a statement. JASSM, which is effective against fixed and relocatable targets, is integrated on the USAF's B-1B, B-2, B-52, F-16 and F-15E aircraft. More than 2,700 JASSM missiles have been ordered through Lot 14. The long-range, conventional, air-to-ground, precision standoff missile is produced at the company's facility in Troy, Alabama, US. The company was recently awarded a contract by the USAF to support additional integration of JASSM onto the Polish Air Force F-16C/D aircraft. |
