Work Detail Virgin Media and Redrow Homes have struck a deal that will bring ultrafast broadband to around 13,000 new homes throughout England.

The partnership between the two industry giants means that homeowners will be able to move into new builds in Tamworth, Shrewsbury, Evesham and Shropshire with access to high-speed broadband and TV services already piped in.

It has all been made possible thanks to Virgin’s £3 billion ‘Project Lightning’ network expansion, which routes fibre broadband cables directly to homes rather than to an exchange. This approach bypasses the risk of losing broadband speed, which is common when using older copper cables to connect exchanges and properties.

Earlier in the year, Openreach and the Home Builders Federation agreed to work together to ensure fibre broadband [can be accessed at all new-build developments.]

Mark Marsh, technical director at Redrow Homes, could understand why connectivity was high on the agenda of homeowners.

“Our partnership means that Redrow customers are able to move in with services including a broadband connection and Virgin TV box already installed,” he said.

“It’s much more convenient than having to arrange installation after you’ve moved, which could involve a wait of several weeks.”

The Virgin/Redrow partnership also means that access to ultrafast broadband is improved not just for Redrow estates but also across the entire area.
