Work Detail QatarEnergy has announced a groundbreaking initiative to significantly expand Qatar’s solar energy capabilities. The company will construct a new solar power mega project in the Dukhan area, aiming to double the State of Qatar’s solar energy production. This ambitious project will establish one of the world’s largest solar power plants with a production capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW), boosting Qatar’s total solar power capacity to approximately 4,000 MW by 2030. The announcement was made by His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, during a press conference in Doha. Minister Al-Kaabi emphasized that this development is a key component of Qatar’s sustainability strategy, intended to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 4.7 million tons annually. He highlighted that the new Dukhan Solar Power Plant will play a critical role in Qatar’s energy transition and its efforts to diversify electricity production. The Dukhan project will join QatarEnergy’s existing solar power assets, including the Al-Kharsaah solar plant with a capacity of 800 MW, and two upcoming projects in Ras Laffan and Mesaieed with a combined capacity of 875 MW. Once completed, these projects will collectively contribute about 30% of Qatar’s total electrical power production capacity, marking a significant milestone in the country’s commitment to sustainable energy development.
