ACWA Power was honored to host His Excellency António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, along with His Excellency Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, and His Excellency Yousef Saleh Algahrah Al-Otaibi, Saudi Arabian Ambassador, at the Tashkent Riverside project site recently. The distinguished guests toured the 200 MW PV installation and the 500 MWh battery energy storage (BESS) facility at Tashkent Riverside. During the visit, the delegates gained insights into the innovative technologies and sustainable energy solutions implemented at the Tashkent Riverside facility. This greenfield development, incorporating both solar and BESS components, aims to stabilize the Uzbek power grid, which has predominantly relied on conventional energy sources. Project proponents highlight that this will be the largest BESS in Central Asia. Marco Arcelli, Chief Executive Officer of ACWA Power, stated, “We were honored to host H.E. António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, H.E. Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, and H.E. Yousef Saleh Algahrah Al-Otaibi, the Saudi Ambassador to Uzbekistan, at our Tashkent Riverside plant.” He added, “This landmark project sets a precedent for renewable energy initiatives in Uzbekistan and Central Asia.
