Work Detail Multiple road projects will gum up roads near Cumberland for the next several weeks.

Starting Wednesday, the right lane heading east on Windy Hill Road at the I-75 overpass will close for 24 hours as the westbound lane of the north side of the bridge reopens. The Cobb County Department of Transportation warns that "significant traffic congestion and delays" will occur during the day.

Eastbound traffic across the I-75 bridge will be two regular lanes and one left-turn lane onto I-75 heading north. That construction work will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. The DOT reccomends drivers use a different route during those times.

"The closure comes as part of continued work on the Windy Hill Diverging Diamond Interchange. Designed to increase capacity, decrease congestion and enhance safety at intersections while minimizing construction costs, the DDI will remove the existing left turn signals for vehicles accessing I-75, eliminating potential crossing conflicts between vehicles," the agency said.

The DDI is one of five projects funded by $48 million meant to improve traffic and safety along a 1.43-mile stretch of Windy Hill Road, from Cobb Parkway to Powers Ferry Road. Most of the projects should be done by the end of spring 2017.

There will be another construction zone area nearby starting a couple days later.

Two eastbound lanes on the south side of Circle 75 Parkway at Cobb Parkway will close Friday, according to Cobb DOT.

Traffic will shift to the north side of the road which means there will be one lane heading each direction for several weeks.

The DOT encourages motorists to use Windy Ridge Parkway to get to Cobb Parkway.
