| Work Detail | The North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) closed a major road in Robeson County on Tuesday, causing a detour for drivers trying to get through south Lumberton. Beginning Tuesday morning, DOT crews closed Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near the intersection with Marion Rd. They are are replacing a culvert under the road. A small bridge on MLK Dr. crosses that culvert ,which allows water to flow through what the DOT identifies as Gum Swamp Canal. Google Maps and MapQuest.com identify the small waterway as Gum Branch Canal. The closure is between W.H. Knuckles Elementary and Lumberton Junior High School. The road will remain closed through early December. Drivers are asked to use 5th Street and Starlite Drive during the closure. |
