State-owned RailTel Corporation is exploring international business opportunities and has its sights set on significant infrastructure projects in Vietnam. The company, known for its telecom and information technology services in India, is evaluating big-ticket projects valued at ?1,000 crore and above in the Southeast Asian nation. “RailTel got its mandate to go international almost a year back. We are trying to get business overseas. Last year we had a visit to Vietnam under the umbrella of Namaste Vietnam, where we pitched our competence to the Vietnamese authorities,” a company official told ETInfra. During the visit, RailTel participated in a railway conference alongside some of its private industry partners, where they interacted with urban transportation and railway authorities in Vietnam. The company is also in discussions with embassy officials and local government authorities to understand Vietnams infrastructure needs and potential collaborations. “We got to know about their plans for the years 2030 and 2050. The country is looking for modernization of its infrastructure and related funding,” the official said. The discussions also touched on possible government-to-government partnerships for funding infrastructure projects in Vietnam. Typically, end-to-end funding models are preferred, where a project is conceptualized, its cost is estimated, and then the proposal is sent for approval through official channels. RailTels international expansion strategy underscores the companys commitment to exploring new markets and leveraging its expertise in the infrastructure sector. By seeking opportunities in Vietnam, RailTel aims to tap into a growing market with ambitious modernization plans. Further details about the projects and their scope are expected to emerge as discussions progress. |
