Work Detail Denmark’s Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) and its compatriot NIRAS have teamed up on a project to kickstart the development of offshore wind farms in the Philippines. In April, COP started the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the Environment and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) work for the future offshore wind farm sites, which NIRAS is leading. COP is leading the development and construction activities on behalf of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). “We intend to continue the momentum in the Philippines to unleash offshore wind and accelerate the energy transition. As we kick off the EIA and ESIA, they will be based on international industry best practices and we have full confidence in NIRAS’ expertise and working together to deliver high-quality assessments,” said Rune Damgaard, COP Philippines Co-CEO. In March 2023, CIP signed a 25-year Offshore Wind Service Contracts with the Philippines’ Department of Energy (DOE) for three offshore wind farms totalling 2 GW in capacity. The company’s three projects are proposed to be developed offshore Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur, offshore of Northern Samar, and offshore of Pangasinan and La Union. The offshore wind projects are expected to create around 4,500 jobs during the development and operations period, generate enough electricity to power about 1 million households, and offset about 2.9 million tonnes in CO2 emissions per year, according to COP.
