Work Detail In a significant step towards strengthening economic ties, the UAE and Iran convened the inaugural session of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) in Abu Dhabi. Chaired by H.E. Abdulla bin Touq al Marri from the UAE and H.E. Mehrdad Bazrpash from Iran, the meeting aimed to foster collaboration in key sectors such as the new economy, tourism, transport, entrepreneurship, and renewable energy. During the session, officials from both sides discussed strategies to elevate bilateral economic relations, emphasizing mutual interests and shared aspirations for growth. H.E. Bin Touq highlighted the UAE’s commitment to expanding economic cooperation with Iran, in alignment with the vision of the UAE’s leadership. The UAE Minister of Economy provided insights into recent economic developments within the UAE, including legislative amendments to enhance the business environment and the launch of initiatives promoting sustainable growth, such as the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2031. Key topics of discussion included mechanisms to facilitate trade exchanges, support for SMEs, and the role of the private sector in driving economic cooperation. Both parties agreed to establish joint technical task forces to implement outcomes from the JEC meeting, focusing on immediate economic and trade cooperation initiatives. Moreover, discussions encompassed opportunities for collaboration in tourism, energy, industry, R&D, financial markets, agriculture, and aviation. The commitment to strengthening cooperation underscores the shared commitment of the UAE and Iran to explore new avenues for mutual benefit and economic advancement.
