IHH Healthcare Malaysia has set a groundbreaking precedent in the country’s healthcare sector with the launch of an ambitious renewable energy initiative. Today, the renowned healthcare provider proudly unveiled its commitment to sustainability by initiating the installation of solar panels across its entire hospital network, marking a significant stride towards reducing its carbon footprint.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the energization of solar panels at Prince Court Medical Centre, graced by the esteemed presence of Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA).
Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah lauded IHH Healthcare’s bold move, emphasizing its pivotal role in advancing Malaysia’s sustainability agenda and aligning with national objectives to elevate renewable energy usage and achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. He hailed the initiative as a beacon of inspiration for other industries to follow suit.
Underpinning Malaysia’s commitment to reducing dependence on fossil fuels and combating climate change, IHH Healthcare Malaysia has electrified eight of its hospitals with solar power, including Gleneagles Hospital Penang, Pantai Hospital Laguna Merbok, and Pantai Hospital Klang, among others.
Jean-François Naa, CEO of IHH Healthcare Malaysia, underscored the significance of this initiative in mitigating the healthcare sector’s environmental impact, noting that energy consumption accounts for a substantial portion of the organization’s carbon footprint. With solar panel installations spanning its network of hospitals, IHH Healthcare is poised to transition to renewable energy while upholding its commitment to providing quality care and service to patients.
The full-scale deployment of solar power across IHH Healthcare Malaysia’s hospitals is slated for completion by 2025, marking a strategic collaboration with Ditrolic Energy, a prominent renewable energy developer in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
