First Solar, a leading solar manufacturer, announced that MN8 Energy LLC (MN8) has placed orders for 457 megawatts (MW) of advanced thin film solar modules, comprising 170 MW of Series 6 Plus bifacial modules and 287 MW of Series 7 modules. These modules will be utilized for projects across the northeastern and southern United States.
MN8, formerly known as Goldman Sachs Renewable Power, operates a 3.2 gigawatt (GW) renewable energy portfolio, serving numerous corporates, government entities, and utilities. MN8 previously engaged with First Solar in acquiring the 123 MW American Kings Solar project in California.
David Fernandez, MN8’s Chief Operations Officer, expressed satisfaction in continuing their partnership with First Solar, emphasizing their commitment to developing a resilient domestic supply chain adhering to high environmental and manufacturing standards.
Georges Antoun, Chief Commercial Officer of First Solar, welcomed MN8’s decision, highlighting the alignment of both companies in promoting responsible solar practices.
First Solar, with a 2023 exit capacity of 6 GW in the US, is a significant contributor to American job creation. A recent study commissioned by First Solar estimated that it supported approximately 16,245 direct, indirect, and induced jobs in 2023. With plans to expand to 14 GW by 2026, First Solar aims to further boost job creation and economic growth in the US.
The company is investing heavily in new manufacturing facilities in Alabama and Louisiana, with expected operations starting in 2024 and 2025, respectively.
