Work Detail Aspen Power, a leading generation platform dedicated to expediting and democratizing decarbonization, revealed its collaboration with a developer to procure 20 community solar projects, totaling up to 19 megawatts (MW), primarily situated in Illinois. These projects encompass various stages of development, including those already under construction and poised for commissioning later this year. Dan Gulick, Senior Vice President of Community Solar at Aspen Power, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, emphasizing its role in advancing decarbonization efforts and broadening access to renewable energy in previously underserved communities. The surge of community solar initiatives in Illinois can be attributed to the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), which implements strategies to enhance solar energy accessibility, particularly for low- and moderate-income communities. Aspen Power’s latest acquisition underscores the favorable market conditions in the state, buoyed by ongoing policy support. This expansion marks Aspen Power’s presence in an increasing number of states where it owns and operates community solar projects. With the inclusion of the Illinois portfolio, Aspen now boasts community solar projects across five states with active community solar programs: Maine, New York, Maryland, and California. Nationally, Aspen has spearheaded the development or acquisition of numerous solar projects spanning 24 states. Partnering with Common Energy, Aspen aims to subscribe to and oversee the management of the community solar projects. Through this collaboration, local households can opt into the community solar program, thereby cutting down on electricity expenses while simultaneously reducing emissions. Richard Keiser, Founder and CEO of Common Energy, echoed the sentiments of excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the tangible economic benefits these projects will bring to Illinois residents and low-income families, along with the environmental advantages for the broader community. With aspirations of reaching gigawatt scale by the mid-decade mark, Aspen Power remains steadfast in its commitment to propelling the transition towards a more sustainable energy future nationwide, across various forms of distributed generation. These projects play a pivotal role in bolstering renewable energy production, fostering clean energy employment opportunities, and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions
