The project, in the state of Bahia, will transform the two existing wind farms in the region, Ventos de Santa Eugênia and Morro do Cruzeiro, into hybrid complexes, combining solar and wind generation. Statkraft will invest 926 million reais (179 million dollars) to install the Sol de Brotas complex, in the interior of Bahia, in the municipalities of Brotas de Macaúbas, Uibaí and Ibipeba. The project will transform the two existing wind farms in the region, Ventos de Santa Eugênia and Morro do Cruzeiro, into hybrid complexes, including solar generation. Together, they will have a capacity of 275 MW.
Developed entirely in-house, the innovation of the project is the use of batteries, with BESS technology, which uses the same connection point as wind and solar. Construction of the hybrid project in Morro do Cruzeiro is scheduled to begin at the end of May, with the mobilization of the work. Work will actually begin in June, with completion scheduled for August 2025. At Ventos de Santa Eugênia, work is scheduled to begin in July and completion in November 2025. During the construction phase, the company hopes to create 1,500 jobs.
The investment is part of Statkrafts commitment to the Government of the State of Bahia, through the Secretariat of Economic Development (SDE).
For Guilherme Melo, Statkraft Construction Director, hybrid projects reinforce the importance of the State for the company, which works to leave a social legacy in the region. “Sol de Brotas will also bring social investment to the municipalities of Brotas de Macaúbas, Uibaí and Ibipeba, seeking to value local communities and promoting the creation of jobs, increased income and other social programs focused on the professional and socioeconomic development of residents. inhabitants of the region,” says Melo.
Existing projects in the region
Located in Uibaí and Ibipeba, in Bahia, the Ventos de Santa Eugênia Wind Complex, considered the groups largest wind farm outside Europe, occupies an area of ??489.18 hectares, where the 14 wind farms are located, which total 91 wind turbines of 5.7 MW of power each. Renewable energy production is expected to reach 2,300 GWh per year, enough to supply 1.17 million Brazilian homes.
Also in Bahia, the company is completing the Morro do Cruzeiro wind complex. The complex will consist of two wind projects, with 14 turbines and an installed capacity of 79.8 MW. Given the regions excellent wind conditions, the complex will generate 386 GWh of renewable energy per year, enough to power more than 190,000 homes.
Sun of Tomorrow
In April, Statkraft launched the Sun of Tomorrow Programme, focused on the professional and socioeconomic inclusion of local workers. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), in favor of progress in areas such as the provision of quality education, decent work and economic growth, the reduction of social inequalities and gender equality, the Program is also part of Statkrafts commitments to the United Nations (UN) Global Compact and the SDG SC Movement.
The first action carried out was a free professional training course called "Installation of Photovoltaic Systems", carried out with technical certification from SENAI, which provides participants with knowledge about this new technology and enables them to work under supervision in installation activities of electrical components. , contributing to the assembly of photovoltaic solar energy systems.
In this first phase, two courses were carried out. One in Brotas de Macaúbas, with 20 students, of which 70% were women. The other group was held in the municipality of Uibaí and also served the community of Ibipeba. |
