Work Detail In response to requests from stakeholders, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced an extension of the deadline for public feedback on the draft guidelines for the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, focusing on the residential sector. The extended deadline for submitting feedback is now April 30, 2024. The initial draft guidelines were released on April 16, 2024, with a deadline set for April 23, 2024. The PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, a pivotal initiative launched in February 2024, seeks to facilitate the installation of rooftop solar panels in one crore Indian homes. The scheme, approved by the President of India, underscores a significant financial commitment, amounting to ?75,021 crore. With a view to bolstering the adoption of rooftop solar power systems nationwide, the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana encompasses various strategic components. These include the integration of the previous Phase II of the grid-connected rooftop solar program, consolidating financial resources and responsibilities under a unified framework. Allocations under the scheme are delineated across various sectors. Notably, ?65,700 crore has been earmarked for providing financial assistance to residential consumers, while ?4,950 crore is designated as incentives for Discoms. Additionally, ?1,000 crore is allocated for local bodies, with ?800 crore earmarked for establishing model solar villages in each district. The scheme aims to streamline processes through a dedicated national portal (pmsuryaghar.gov.in), enhancing accessibility and transparency. Subsidies or CFAs provided under the scheme are applicable to applications submitted on or after February 13, 2024. Structured criteria have been outlined for subsidy allocation, with residential sectors receiving CFAs for the first 2 kW of rooftop solar capacity at 60% of the benchmark cost. Moreover, the scheme delineates baseline benchmark costs for the fiscal year 2023-24, with a structured CFA framework established accordingly. These guidelines are formulated following delegated powers conferred to the Ministry, in concurrence with the Integrated Financial Division. The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana represents a significant step towards fostering renewable energy adoption at the grassroots level. By incentivizing rooftop solar installations in households, the scheme not only contributes to carbon emissions reduction but also empowers citizens with access to clean and sustainable energy sources.
