The governor of Jujuy was consulted about the uncertainty in the construction sector due to the stoppage of work
After four months of paralysis of public works by decision of the government of Javier Milei, the UOCRA union assures that in Jujuy alone there are around 8,000 unemployed in the construction sector. This issue worries the governors and they ask the Nation to reactivate those that are close to completion.
Carlos Sadir, governor of Jujuy, was consulted at a press conference about the progress in negotiations with the national government to reactivate some of the paralyzed works in the province.
“There is a decision by the National Government not to advance in public works and unfortunately today we have many public works in the province with national funds that are paralyzed. In many cases this happens because there are delays in the certificates that companies must present and in other cases, such as that of National Route 34, the contract has fallen through and we need to re-tender,” he indicated.
In addition, the Jujuy president detailed the most important works that the province has and that are a priority to complete them. “We have been negotiating with the National Public Works Secretariat with the intention that these works continue. There are also homes with different degrees of completion, approximately 400 with financing from the Nation, some 90% built, others with a lower percentage. Another important work that has already begun is that of the new entrance bridge to Tilcara over the Río Grande. In this case, in recent months the work certificates have been presented but the company has not received the payments. There are also sections of Route 34 that go from Cuarteadero to San Pedro, which although the company is still working there are delays in the payment of certificates. There are other minor works, all of them started during the government of Alberto Fernández but today they are paralyzed due to the delay in payments.”

This is why the governor of Jujuy announced that in the negotiations with the Nation they will try to complete the works with quite important progress. “We are in the process of celebrating some agreements to complete those that have made important progress and are waiting for what the Nation decides on those that have just started but those that have just started will probably fall apart. Those that have an advanced stage of execution, the government has already communicated the decision to finish them.”
Finally, Sadir stressed that his governments idea is to encourage the private sector to invest in housing construction, which is a problem that the provincial state wants to begin to solve. “It is of our interest because not only do Jujeños need housing but also the construction of houses generates a large amount of labor.” |
