Work Detail Technip Energies, a global leader in energy transition solutions, has secured a significant contract from TotalEnergies and OQ for the Marsa LNG bunkering project situated in Sohar, Oman. The contract encompasses Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services for a natural gas liquefaction train with a remarkable LNG production capacity of 1 million tons per annum (Mtpa). Notably, the plant will adopt electric-driven motors instead of conventional gas turbines and will be fueled by renewable electricity sourced from a nearby solar farm, effectively covering 100% of the LNG plant’s annual power requirements. This innovative approach positions the site as one of the world’s lowest greenhouse gas intensity LNG facilities ever constructed. The produced LNG will primarily serve as a marine fuel, contributing significantly to reducing the shipping industry’s carbon footprint. The Marsa LNG project is a collaborative initiative led by TotalEnergies (80%) and OQ (20%). Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies, expressed his views on the project, stating, “The world’s pursuit of net-zero emissions necessitates leveraging LNG as a vital energy source while addressing emissions reduction. The Marsa LNG project, led by TotalEnergies and OQ, exemplifies our commitment to decarbonizing the LNG value chain by integrating renewable energy into its production process and utilizing LNG as a cleaner marine fuel to mitigate emissions associated with maritime transportation. Leveraging our expertise and global leadership in LNG infrastructure design and delivery, we are honored to support TotalEnergies and the Sultanate of Oman in providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions to the global community.” This contract represents a significant achievement for Technip Energies, falling within the substantial contract category, with a value ranging between €500 million and €1 billion in revenue.
