The Energy Center of the University of Chile and Fraunhofer Chile have launched a pilot photovoltaic concentration project, developed within the framework of the Advanced Decentralized Energy Systems (SEDA) initiative, which brings together institutions from across the country to promote solutions. decentralized energy.
The objective of the project installed in Parque Carén, in the commune of Pudahuel, Metropolitan region, “is to provide evidence on the efficiency of this technology in relation to conventional solar photovoltaic plants, as well as to analyze its technical-economic viability,” according to states in a statement.
It is also explained that photovoltaic concentration technology “uses lenses or mirrors to concentrate sunlight on photovoltaic cells, thus increasing the amount of light that falls on them,” which, it is added, “allows electricity to be generated more efficiently, since solar energy is better used.”
According to the executive director of Fraunhofer Chile, Frank Dinter, “thanks to the countrys abundant solar resources, there are many energy concentration systems that can work.”
“The idea of ??this project is to validate and measure the efficiency of photovoltaic multicells, which have an energy efficiency of 45%,” Dinter defined.
The SEDA, created last December, seeks to promote innovations that integrate renewable energies and the green hydrogen industry in a decentralized manner, thanks to the collaboration between the Undersecretary of Energy and 22 other organizations, including Fraunhofer Chile. |
