Work Detail In a significant move, Katya Somohano Silva has been appointed as the new general director of Iberdrola México, marking a pivotal moment for the company’s growth trajectory in the country. With a focus on advancing clean energy projects, Somohano is entrusted with leading Iberdrola México into a new phase of development, backed by the support of the Iberdrola Group and the local team. Expressing her commitment to the company’s mission, Somohano stated, “Iberdrola México begins a new phase in the country with the objective of supporting the industry in its decarbonization and emissions reduction goals. We want to grow hand in hand with our clients and suppliers, betting on national content, the creation of quality jobs, and win-win outcomes in the communities where we operate. I assume this mission with great pride and responsibility.” With extensive experience in both the public and private energy sectors, Somohano aims to leverage the company’s solid portfolio of renewable projects across various states in Mexico. She emphasized the importance of maintaining operational excellence and reaffirmed the commitment to building a more sustainable and green future for Mexico. Ignacio Galán, president of the Iberdrola Group, expressed confidence in Somohano’s leadership, highlighting her impressive career trajectory and the strength of the team under her guidance. He affirmed, “Under her leadership, in this new stage Iberdrola México will continue to invest, create more jobs, and provide the best service to Mexicans.” Somohano, originally from Mexico City, holds a degree in Law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a master’s degree in Law from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. She has also completed senior management and innovation programs at renowned institutions such as the Pan American Institute of Senior Business Management (IPADE) and Harvard Business School. Somohano succeeds Enrique Alba, who has played a pivotal role in Iberdrola México’s growth and development over the past decade. Alba will return to Spain to assume a new position within the Iberdrola Group, marking the end of a successful tenure in Mexico. The transition marks a significant moment for Iberdrola México, as Somohano assumes leadership to drive the company’s continued expansion and impact in the Mexican energy sector.
