Construction has officially commenced on the eagerly anticipated £100 million expansion project at Leeds Bradford Airport. This transformative development, known as LBA:Regen, marks a significant milestone for the airport, promising a plethora of enhancements to the terminal building in Yeadon.
The ambitious project entails the construction of a state-of-the-art, three-storey extension spanning 9,500 square meters, coupled with extensive refurbishments to existing facilities. Among the key features of the expansion are a new UK Border Force immigration facility and international baggage reclaim hall, expanded retail and international departure lounge facilities, and larger central search and check-in areas. Passengers can also look forward to an array of amenities, including more seating, faster security processes, and an assortment of new shops and eateries.
Notably, the decision to embark on this expansion represents a shift in strategy for the airport’s Australian private equity owners. Initially, plans for a brand-new terminal at a cost of £150 million were proposed but subsequently abandoned following government scrutiny. Instead, the focus has shifted towards enhancing and maximizing the existing infrastructure. |
