Work Detail JERA Co., Inc. has entered into a strategic partnership with ReNew E-Fuels Private Limited, a branch of one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, ReNew Energy Global PLC, to embark on a pioneering green ammonia production project in India. The collaborative project, set to take place in Paradip, Odisha, aims to leverage about 500 MW of renewable energy to produce green hydrogen. This hydrogen will then be used to manufacture roughly 100,000 tons of green ammonia annually. Moreover, the same amount is planned to be exported to Japan each year, aligning with JERA’s ambitious “JERA Zero CO2 Emissions 2050” target. This initiative comes in the wake of both the Indian and Japanese governments announcing various support schemes to enhance their clean energy sectors under India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and Japan’s clean energy transition strategies, respectively. The project signifies a crucial step towards strengthening the Indo-Japanese partnership in renewable energy and advancing their mutual interests in achieving Net Zero emissions. JERA has maintained a strong relationship with ReNew since 2017, capitalizing on ReNew’s expertise in renewable energy projects and JERA’s proficiency in creating comprehensive value chains. This project is also the first venture into green hydrogen and ammonia for JERA, representing a significant milestone towards fostering a decarbonized global society. The development of the project will be facilitated by JERA Nex, JERA’s newly established renewable energy division, underlining the company’s commitment to expanding renewable energy solutions essential for producing green hydrogen and ammonia. Yukio Kani, JERA’s Global CEO, emphasized the importance of this joint development as a step closer to a decarbonized future. Sumant Sinha, CEO of ReNew, also highlighted the project’s potential to diminish carbon emissions significantly and its alignment with global clean energy goals.
