In a significant move towards sustainability, ib vogt, an international renewable energy development platform, has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Apple to supply solar power from its Castaño Solar project in the province of Segovia, Spain. The project, expected to be operational by December 2024, aims to support Apple’s sustainability goals and contribute to a net-zero emissions future.
The Castaño Solar project, with a capacity of 105 MWac, is part of ib vogt’s commitment to creating a positive social and environmental impact in the region. Conservation initiatives, including reforestation efforts, installation of nesting boxes for native birds, and the provision of protected habitats, underscore ib vogt’s dedication to environmental protection during project development. Additionally, construction activities will be halted during the breeding season to minimize disruption to local wildlife.
Utilizing state-of-the-art bifacial solar panels on a single-axis tracker system, the project aims to maximize energy production, with a peak capacity of 134 MWp. It is estimated that the solar plant will annually save up to 57,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions, further contributing to environmental sustainability efforts.
Anton Milner, CEO of ib vogt, highlighted Spain’s emergence as a major market for solar PV, emphasizing the opportunities for companies to benefit from low-cost, low-carbon solar power. ib vogt is providing full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services for the Castaño Solar project and will continue to provide Operations & Maintenance (O&M) once the project is completed.
