The “Marcos Sastre” Higher Normal School has been setting its course, leaving indelible traces that transcend time.
In the year 1858, Baradero had the honor of receiving a visit from the General Inspector of Schools of the State of Buenos Aires, Mr. Marcos Sastre, thus achieving approval for the construction of a large building for the Normal School by the Municipal community. In 1861 the works began that would end in 1869, like what is currently preserved in the Historical Monument building.
Between 1869/70, the boys and girls school (Primary No. 1), whose director was Don José A. Manéndez, moved to the enormous two-story house.
Years later, between 1920 and 1930, the “Popular Normal School” operated, with Don José Chiappara as its director.
In 1930, the Vacation Colony or “for weak children of the plain” operated, the year in which Kindergarten No. 1 arrived, until 1960.
The “Marcos Sastre” Normal Superior School was born on March 19, 1962 as a Secondary Education School with 35 students, operating in the “Escuela de la Barranca”.
In 1970 the construction of the new building was announced. In 1971, the Teaching Staff for Primary Education began, thus establishing the Higher Normal School. And in 1973, the baccalaureate with a teaching orientation appeared.
Other facts that mark the progress and development of this beloved school is the creation of the Primary Application Department; the creation of teaching staff in physics and chemistry (1986-1991); the teaching staff for Pre-school teaching and its application course (1992): the granting to the School of the Municipal order of Santiago del Varadero, for its educational career in the area (1993)
In 1994, along with all the National Schools, it was transferred to Provincial jurisdiction, subsequently acquiring the EGB, the Polimodal (modalities: “Humanity and Social Sciences” and “Communication, Art and Design”) and new tertiary careers such as teaching. in Mathematics, Language, Geography, History and Teaching for EGB 1 and 2.
Thus we arrive at the present time witnessing that that dream of 1858 became a reality, turning this institution into a multiple and fruitful educational community: The Academic Unit of the “Marcos Sastre” Higher Normal School with the four levels of teaching and a total of 1300 students.
