Work Detail Jackson’s uptown roundabout will enter the final stage of production this week, meaning the project as a whole remains on-schedule for completion in late October.

Crews experienced delays during an uncommonly rainy August, but most of the Missouri Department of Transportation project has been completed.

Today, crews are slated to begin the north leg of U.S. 61.

Next week, traffic once again will be able to use Main Street and the southern leg of U.S. 61.

MoDOT is encouraging drivers to use caution in the area and follow the detour signage.

The work that remains to be done will require the closing U.S. 61 between the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse to Hope Street so crews can install a water line, lay asphalt and pour concrete for sidewalks and islands.

This final leg of the project is expected to take about four weeks, during which traffic will be detoured from Route D to Farmington Road to Route 34/72.

The post office will be accessible from the roundabout once Main Street and the south leg of U.S. 61 are open to traffic.
