| Work Detail | Resentment prevails among commuters over the delay in the construction of a bus stop proposed during the BJP regime. Commuters are now demanding that the construction process should be expedited and the bus stop completed before the Assembly elections next year. Transport Minister GS Bali and other officers of the department had inspected the site of the bus stop at Chogan on the Pathankot-Mandi National Highway here twice during the past two years, but no result had been witnessed. The Dhumal government had proposed the bus stand on the premises of a dilapidated veterinary hospital and transferred land to the Transport Department in July 2012. The Animal Husbandry Department shifted the veterinary hospital from the proposed site for the bus stop in February and the Transport Department took over the possession of the premises. Bali had announced in February that the department had planned to construct the bus stop under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) policy. He had claimed that the department would float tenders for the construction of the bus stop and the process would be completed in 60 days. He had also announced that the construction would be completed in 15 months after awarding the tender. But the structure of the veterinary hospital had not even been demolished yet. Vijay Sapiya, Divisional Manager, Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC), Dharamsala, said the tender for the demolition of the hospital building had been awarded for Rs 3.75 lakh and submitted to the head office for the final approval. He said the department would prefer the construction of the bus stop through the BOT scheme. If no private organisation evinced interest, the department would build the bus stop on its own. |
