Work Detail The Khavda area in Gujarat, a barren stretch of land near the Pakistan border, is being transformed into the world’s largest renewable energy park by Adani Green Energy Ltd. Originally accessed only by a modest airstrip without air traffic control, the site now gears up for a significant clean energy venture. The park, spanning 538 square kilometers, will leverage the region’s abundant solar radiation and high wind speeds to generate clean electricity. Gautam Adani, head of Adani Group, announced an investment of approximately Rs 1.5 lakh crore to develop 30 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. This initiative aligns with India’s broader goals to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070. The project, which commenced construction in 2022, has already commissioned 2,000 MW of its capacity, with plans to continually expand. Despite its remote location and challenging conditions such as dust storms and saline groundwater, the area will soon house worker colonies, desalination plants, and essential services to support its burgeoning infrastructure. This ambitious project underscores India’s commitment to transitioning towards non-fossil fuel energy sources, contributing significantly to global sustainability efforts.
