In an event in which the Uruguayan Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Elisa Facio, participated, this group created by business chambers with the aim of developing that market was presented.
With the participation of the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Elisa Facio, the Uruguayan Hydrogen Association was launched yesterday in Montevideo, created by the Uruguayan Association of Renewable Energies, the Uruguayan Association of Private Electric Energy Generators, the Uruguayan Chamber of the Construction, the Chamber of Industries, and the Uruguayan Chamber of Logistics, and brings together various business and commercial groups, which participate in the different stages of the sector.
The objective of the association is to encourage research and development of technologies related to hydrogen, as well as to promote the adoption of these solutions in the market.
At the event, Minister Facio highlighted that Uruguay has 97% of its energy matrix coming from renewable sources, so the development of green hydrogen is “a great opportunity for the country and a possible new export sector, with comparable volumes.” "to meat, in which Europe is the main target market, since the countries of that continent have signed agreements in favor of decarbonization, and are advancing changes in their energy matrices."
“Uruguay not only intends to export hydrogen, but also add value through the commercialization of its derivatives, as is the case of methanol,” said Facio, an element that can serve as an input, for example, as synthetic fuel for aviation and the maritime industry.
The country currently has four hydrogen projects in development, two large and two smaller.
In May of last year, the first green hydrogen pilot project was selected, based on a call from the Green Hydrogen Sector Fund of Uruguay, which of nine preselected ended up choosing the H24U Project , made up of a consortium of the companies Saceem and CIR. .
The Green Hydrogen Sector Fund is made up of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM), the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (ANII). |
