Work Detail Chinese manufacturer Longi claims that its new Tera wafers offer a notable efficiency increase of approximately 0.1% across several cell technologies. Chinese solar module manufacturer Longi Green Energy has introduced new wafers designed for cell technologies such as tunneling oxide passivated contact (TOPCon), heterojunction (HJT) and back contact (BC). Wang Yichun, director of product R&D of Longi wafer division, said Tera wafers offer full platform compatibility, high resistance consistency and effective impurity absorption as key advantages. The manufacturer noted that it currently offers multiple size specifications to meet market demand and accommodate varying thickness requirements. The new wafers offer a uniform axial distribution of resistance, effectively reducing the variation in resistivity between the head and tail of the silicon bars. This improvement, from three times to less than 1.5 times with the same rod length, supposedly facilitates a more concentrated distribution of cell efficiency, resulting in the production of higher quality cells and minimizing discrepancies in the side of the module. The greater metal impurity absorption capacity of wafers offers great potential to improve cell efficiency compared to traditional products. Longi says its internal testing has shown a 16% increase in the flexural strength of Tera wafers compared to conventional alternatives, significantly improving fracture resistance. This greater durability allows for thinner products to be manufactured and reduced fragmentation rates in the manufacturing process. The manufacturer claims that Tera wafers improve efficiency by approximately 0.1% across different cell platforms, meeting strict quality standards for high-efficiency cells without additional post-production costs. The company plans to begin verification testing in April, followed by pilot testing and certification in June, with mass production and shipment for subsequent cell manufacturing planned for September. Wang stressed the importance of optimizing product performance in collaboration with customers to take full advantage of the performance advantages offered by Tera wafers. The grand unveiling of the latest product attracted the attention of cell industry leaders such as Solar Space, Jietai Technology, Eging PV and Runergy.
