Work Detail Texas PV project will sell power to Verizon under 15-year PPA deal Leeward Renewable Energy has completed construction of the 200MW Horizon solar project in Texas, US. Electricity generated by the array near Pearsall is to be sold to telecoms outfit Verizon Communications under a 15-year power purchase agreement. The deal is one of four struck between the two companies covering 640MW of wind and solar schemes in the US. Around 400 jobs were created during the construction process, according to Leeward. LRE’s senior vice president for development Omar Aboudaher said: “We are pleased to have completed another successful project that will provide our longstanding customer, Verizon, with renewable energy. “None of this would have been possible without the supportive, wonderful community in Frio County, who welcomed our team and this project.” Sustainable land management initiatives were implemented at Horizon, including the introduction of sheep grazing this month for vegetation control. The measure, alongside biodiversity management and native species planting at the site, increases land productivity and provides farmers with supplementary income, the company said.
