India’s premier power sector infrastructure investment trust, IndiGrid, has made significant strides in the energy sector by operationalizing its first greenfield project, Kallam Transmission Limited (KTL), in Beed, Maharashtra. This landmark initiative was secured through a competitive bidding process in December 2021 and has been executed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Maintain (BOOM) basis for 35 years, receiving official energization clearance on February 6, 2024.
The KTL project comprises a substation with a capacity of 2 x 500 MVA and voltage levels of 400/220 kV, alongside 10 Bays with a LILO (Line In Line Out) multi-circuit transmission line stretching approximately 18 kilometers. This infrastructure is crucial for the evacuation of 1 GW of power from renewable sources in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv region, enhancing the state’s transmission capabilities and facilitating the integration of green energy.
In a significant move to bolster renewable energy infrastructure, IndiGrid was tasked with an augmentation project for KTL in November 2022, aimed at supporting an additional 1 GW of renewable power evacuation under the Regulated Tariff Mechanism (RTM).
IndiGrid’s successful implementation of KTL marks its entry into greenfield transmission projects, with the trust securing five additional projects across Maharashtra, New Delhi, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. Harsh Shah, CEO and Whole Time Director of IndiGrid, expressed enthusiasm over the project’s commencement, highlighting its importance for the trust’s growth and its contribution to India’s renewable energy objectives. Shah also acknowledged the support from the Prime Minister, the PMO, and the Ministry of Power, emphasizing KTL’s role in facilitating the evacuation of 2 GW of renewable energy. |
