Work Detail Under the agreements, Microsoft will procure the power produced by the Morrow Lake and Cradle Solar projects, both utilizing First Solar’s ultra-low carbon, thin-film photovoltaic solar modules. These initiatives are expected to create jobs, provide local economic benefits, and implement environmental protection measures, including land stewardship activities promoting soil health and biodiversity preservation. Jason Allen, Chief Executive Officer of LRE, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Microsoft, emphasizing the shared commitment to advancing clean energy projects. He highlighted the positive impact on local communities and emphasized support for U.S. manufacturing. SunChase Power and Eolian, through their joint venture Red River, initiated the development of Morrow Lake Solar in 2017. Will Furgeson, Vice President of SunChase Power, acknowledged the contributions of landowners and local stakeholders, underscoring the project’s significance in bolstering electricity production in ERCOT during peak demand periods. Both projects will contribute to various community programs, including educational initiatives and youth agricultural training centers, while also supporting local events such as toy drives and holiday celebrations. Construction of the Morrow Lake Solar facility has already begun, with an expected completion by the fourth quarter of 2024, creating over 300 construction jobs in Frio County, including significant local hires. Construction for the Cradle Solar facility is slated to commence in the second quarter of 2024, with completion anticipated by the fourth quarter of 2025, generating additional employment opportunities in Brazoria County. The Power Purchase Agreements between Leeward Renewable Energy and Microsoft represent a significant milestone in advancing renewable energy initiatives in Texas. With the development of the Morrow Lake and Cradle Solar projects, both companies are poised to make substantial contributions to clean energy generation while fostering economic growth and community development in the region.
