Work Detail Enel, one of the leading clean energy operators in the U.S., has initiated construction on the Ables Springs Solar + Storage Project in Kaufman County, Texas. This innovative endeavor combines a 186-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) system with a 115 MW / 169 MWh battery energy storage system, aiming to bolster grid reliability and provide clean power solutions. Stephen Pike, head of Enel North America’s renewable energy business, Enel Green Power North America, emphasized the significance of this project in ensuring grid stability, particularly in light of recent ERCOT conditions. With over 16 years of experience operating renewables in Texas, Enel brings industry-leading expertise to the table, contributing to a resilient, affordable, and clean grid. Enel’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond energy production, as evidenced by its integration of sustainability principles throughout the project. Ables Springs is projected to generate 320 GWh of clean energy annually, sufficient to power over 30,000 households. Moreover, the project is expected to generate approximately $60 million in tax revenue for schools and public services over its lifetime. Furthermore, Enel is actively investing in the development of a renewables workforce pipeline in Texas, partnering with institutions like Texas State Technical College to support vocational training programs in wind, solar, and battery technologies. The Ables Springs project is anticipated to create around 200 construction jobs and several permanent, full-time operations positions. Developed by Enel in collaboration with Red River Renewable Energy, LLC, the project underscores Enel’s extensive experience and commitment to advancing clean energy solutions in the U.S. With a robust development pipeline exceeding 32 GW, Enel North America remains at the forefront of the nation’s clean energy transition. Ables Springs is slated to commence operations by late 2024, contributing significantly to Texas’ renewable energy landscape.
