The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) has approved the feasibility study report for RWE’s Thor offshore wind farm in Denmark.
Approved on 20 March, the feasibility study report, which covered an area of 286 square kilometres, also included the environmental impact study (EIS).
The approval does not give the project developer, Thor Wind Farm I/S, owned by RWE AG, the right to build the offshore wind farm, but an opportunity to apply for an establishment permit, said DEA.
The application, along with the EIS and other relevant documents, will undergo an eight-week consultation period expected to commence in early April, according to the agency.
The developer was announced as the winner of the Danish tender for the 1 GW Thor offshore wind farm at the beginning of December 2021.
The project will feature Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD wind turbines installed on monopiles approximately 22 kilometres from Thorsminde on the west coast of Jutland.
40 of the 72 units will be equipped with recyclable rotor blades manufactured by Siemens Gamesa with the offshore installation expected to commence in 2026.
Once fully commissioned in 2027, the 1 GW project will become Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm and will be capable of producing enough green electricity to supply the equivalent of more than one million Danish households. |
