The New York Power Authority (NYPA) has launched a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to identify and pre-qualify companies and investors for collaboration on renewable energy and storage system projects in New York State. This move is part of NYPA’s expanded authority to enhance renewable energy development, aligning with New York State’s ambitious climate action objectives.
Interested parties in solar photovoltaic, wind, battery storage, green hydrogen, geothermal, and renewable-related transmission projects are invited to submit their qualifications. This process aims to establish a pool of pre-qualified firms that NYPA can swiftly engage with to accelerate renewable energy projects. The RFQ follows a successful Request for Information and consultations with various stakeholders, shaping its strategic approach.
Submissions are due by April 9, 2024, with NYPA planning to announce the pre-qualified respondents by the end of May 2024. This initiative supports the broader goal of advancing New York State’s leadership in clean energy and reducing its carbon footprint.
NYPA’s commitment to renewable energy development is supported by the 2023-24 Enacted State Budget, granting it increased capabilities to plan, finance, and execute renewable energy projects. This is in line with the objectives of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act and aims to ensure a reliable supply of clean energy in the state. Additionally, the REACH program will be supported, offering bill credits to low and moderate-income households through NYPA’s renewable energy projects.
Since its establishment, NYPA has played a pivotal role in New York’s energy sector, starting with the construction of major hydroelectric power plants in the 1950s and 60s. As it prepares to publish its first biennial strategic plan for renewable energy in January 2025, NYPA is positioned as a key player in transitioning New York State towards a sustainable energy future. |
