Work Detail Federal authorities green light hook up with New York public power utility Consolidated Edison The U.S. federal government has approved an agreement for transmission connection between Equinor’s Empire Wind 1 project and Consolidated Edison, New York City’s public power utility. The approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will allow Empire Wind 1 connect to New York City’s grid through the Sunset Park Onshore Substation at South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT). The Large Generator Interconnection Agreement agreement will allow Empire Wind 1 to contribute 810MW of power into the city’s grid at Con Edison’s Gowanus substation in Brooklyn. “This federal approval marks the culmination of a years-long process,” vice president of Equinor Renewables Americas Teddy Muhlfelder said. “Con Edison is building the grid of the future to provide our customers with reliable, renewable, clean energy,” vice president of Con Edison System and Transmission Operation Walter Alvarado said. “We are pleased to continue our work with the team from Empire Wind 1 to connect this project to our grid and bring the first offshore wind energy to our customers in New York City.”
