Larsen & Toubro’s Buildings & Factories (B&F) vertical has secured a substantial contract from AIIMS Madurai, Tamil Nadu, falling under the PMSSY division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
While the exact value of the order remains undisclosed, the company has described it as ‘significant’, indicating a range between ?1,000 crore and ?2,500 crore.
The project entails the construction of a comprehensive medical campus, comprising a 720-bed hospital, a 150-bed Infectious Diseases Block, a 30-bed AYUSH Block, a medical college, nursing college, auditorium, hostel facilities, and residential units, to be completed within a timeframe of 33 months.
L&T’s responsibilities encompass civil structures, MEP services, finishes, and external development, showcasing the company’s prowess in delivering extensive healthcare infrastructure projects. The total built-up area for the project is estimated at 2.1 million square feet, according to a company release.
Construction activities for AIIMS Madurai commenced last week, marking a significant milestone nearly five years after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in 2019.
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Bharati Pravin Pawar, revealed in a written reply to the Lok Sabha in July 2023 that out of the total project cost of ?1,977 crore, 82 per cent will be financed through a loan from JICA, with the remainder funded by the Centre. |
