Work Detail The initial geotechnical seabed surveys for the proposed second phase of the Seagreen offshore wind farm have been finalised. Conducted at SSE Renewables Seagreen site off the Angus coast, these surveys assessed conditions in preparation for the addition of up to 36 new turbines alongside the existing 114 fully operational ones. The vessel responsible for the site investigation, the 90-metre-long Connector, completed phase one works within 10 days in February. This phase included cone penetrometer testing (CPT) at nearly 100 locations. Utilising dynamic positioning (DP) technology, the vessel maintained precise positions while thin rod sensors penetrated the seabed at depths of up to 15 metres. This allowed the team to gather crucial information about seabed composition and assess the suitability of proposed turbine foundation locations. Phase two of the geotechnical works is scheduled to commence later this year and is estimated to take around two weeks to complete. This phase will involve Vibrocore (VC) operations along the proposed export cable route from the offshore site to the landfall at Cockenzie. Seagreen is a joint venture partnership between SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies.
