Work Detail In a significant move towards bolstering renewable energy and power infrastructure, the Rajasthan government has recently sealed a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with key players in the energy sector. The agreements, signed with major entities including NTPC, CIL, NLC India, and SJVN, aim to set up a substantial capacity of solar power and green hydrogen manufacturing facilities in the state. Under these agreements, a staggering 28.5 gigawatts (GW) of solar power capacity and a one million tonne green hydrogen manufacturing facility are slated for development. Among the notable partnerships, NTPC has joined hands with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RRVUNL) to explore the incorporation of supercritical units into the existing Chhabra Thermal Power Plant (TPP). The collaboration also encompasses initiatives to enhance the efficiency and reduce the generation cost of the plants current units. Additionally, NTPC Green Energy (NGEL) has inked a separate MoU with RVUNL for the development of Renewable Energy (RE) projects and green hydrogen derivatives, totaling up to 25 GW and one million tonnes capacities, respectively, within Rajasthan. Further diversifying the energy mix, CIL has entered into an MoU with RRVUNL for the exploration and execution of 4,100 MW capacity power projects. These projects include a mix of coal-based and solar power plants, along with other renewable energy ventures across the state. Lignite miner NLCIL has also joined forces with the Rajasthan government to establish a joint venture aimed at setting up a 125 MW lignite-based power plant and a 1,000 MW solar power plant. This venture entails a substantial investment exceeding ?7,000 crore. Additionally, SJVN Green Energy (SGEL), a subsidiary of SJVN, has signed a long-term power usage agreement (PUA) for 500 MW solar power. Under this agreement, SGEL will supply solar power at a competitive tariff from the 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project, which is anticipated to be one of the largest single-location projects in the country. The Bikaner Solar Power Project, expected to generate over 2,454.84 million units of energy annually, is slated for commissioning by September 30, 2024, at an estimated cost of ?5,491 crore. Another agreement under the Power Purchase Agreement entails SGEL providing 100 MW Solar Power from a separate project developed through competitive bidding. These developments underscore Rajasthans commitment to transitioning towards sustainable and renewable sources of energy, positioning the state as a frontrunner in Indias renewable energy landscape.
