Work Detail Union Ministers Shri R.K. Singh (Power and New & Renewable Energy) and Dr. Virendra Kumar (Social Justice and Empowerment) inaugurated the foundation stone for the 630 MW Barethi Solar Power Project in Madhya Pradesh on March 10, 2024. This event, which was marked by the presence of the ministers through video conferencing, underlines India’s commitment to boosting its power infrastructure to meet the growing demand for electricity in line with its economic expansion. Shri R.K. Singh highlighted the transformative strides taken in the power sector under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, emphasizing the doubling of power capacity and peak demand over the past decade. The government’s efforts have led to remarkable achievements, including universal electricity access across villages, improved power availability exceeding 22 hours in rural and 23 hours in urban areas, and the addition and upgrading of thousands of substations to ensure 24/7 power supply as a fundamental right of citizens. The 630 MW Barethi project, representing a clean energy initiative with an investment of Rs. 3,200 crores, is set to illuminate over 300,000 households. Developed under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy’s Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks scheme, it aligns with India’s green energy goals by aiming to cut down 12 lakh tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Dr. Virendra Kumar underscored the project’s role in regional development, including its contribution to the agricultural sector through solar power. He also noted the ongoing progress in Chhatarpur district, part of the government’s Aspirational Districts program, and the upcoming inauguration of a Vande Bharat train enhancing connectivity in the Bundelkhand region. NTPC Limited, India’s largest power utility with a vision to significantly increase its non-fossil-based capacity by 2032, champions the Barethi Solar Power Project. This initiative not only marks a leap towards sustainable energy but also promises economic growth through job creation and affordable power supply.
